Language socialisation is tantamount to culture socialisation and people learning a new language evidently acquire a world view related to the latter. This study investigated language socialisation of Year 3 EAL pupils in an English primary school and explored their experience of language use in a monolingual language socialisation and learning context with a view to understanding their perception of learning and their experience of schooling. Such attitude has influenced language policy in England where English, and moreover Standard English has been upheld as the language of the dominant cultural group. Learning a language appears to be closely linked to learning the way of life of a people as cultural features are intricately embedded in languages that people speak. Though policy documents state their option for diversity education and underline the need for language provision for pupils learning English as an additional language in schools, interpretation and implementation of policy appears to be dependent on individual schools. Правительство издало циркуляр об отмене обязательной бесплатной выдаче молока всем детям. Теперь его получают учащиеся лишь тех школ, которые субсидируются на эти цели отдельными местными органами народного образования. Различные организации британской системы просвещения пытаются всеми средствами отменить подобное решение, или изыскать иные средства на обеспечение детей молоком. Так, например, в газете “ he eacher” в статье “Idea o re-i roduce free milk” сообщалось: “ he bigges educa io al au hori y i E gla d a d Wales a ou ced his week, ha i would ake adva age of discre io ary powers gra ed by he Goverme o supply FREE - MILK o all 7 o 11 year old from sep ember”. Таким образом, сочетание “free milk” было социально переосмысленно, но стало фразеологическим и более того - приобретало символическое значение. Требование “free milk !” - это яркий народный протест против реакционной политики консервативного правительства в области образования. Вышеизложенное позволяет сделать вывод о том, что одни слои лексики обусловленны социальными факторами более очевидно, другие - менее очевидно.
